Zane Campbell Live For OnlineTV By Rick Siegel

If I could sing, or write songs, I would write one for Zane Campbell. In all my long life I have only met a few great artists and genius’. Zane Campbell comes from a long line of great artists and Mountain Men. He can carve a wooden chest that will astound you, he can paint and draw like Salvador Dali, he even has a line of comic books he wrote and illustrated. The man is the ultimate artist. I just can’s sing enough about his amazing talent to do him justice.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Zane as the man, the myth, and the legend when he was in New York. With the demons all around it was hard to keep his attention. I did get him to do a couple shows for me as music is his life blood. Poignant songs that come from a deep, disturbing, and real life come out of him like water from the mountains. His Acme performance was beautiful, a real artists canvas of music. From his wild yodeling to the tempering by his violinist, his show is sure to entertain.

Finally release of 1997 Concert

I have another performance of his somewhere from 1997 and just encoded it and it is on this page. In the meantime you have this concert and a taste of a solo song he did for me at Webstock in 1997 at the Frying Pan, NYC. The setting for that was a beauty. Deep in a rusted old ship with just a single beam of light shining on him. The man is a treasure and worth a trip anytime he might come near your town to play.

Who is Zane Campbell

Zane is one of the greatest Psycho hillbilly Musicians in the world. His aunt Ola Belle Reed wrote “High On the Mountain,” a country hillbilly classic if ever there was one. On the other side of his family, his great uncle, Guy Brooks, wrote and recorded the first country car wreck song, “Wreck on the Mountain Road” (1928). R. Crumb did a portrait of Guy Brooks and his band, The Red Fox Chasers, in his Pioneers of Country Music card set. Zane Campbell is a (psycho) Hillbilly singer/songwriter best known for his song “Postmortem bar” from the motion picture “Longtime Companion” (1990), the first American motion picture about AIDS.
