Imelda May Live at 12 Bar Club

Imelda May captured here on DVD in a rare moment of history with an early recording of the Irish singer-songwriter Imelda Clabby (soon to be Imelda May to her fans) on stage at the historic 12 Bar Club in London. Captured in the eye of history by the famous OnlineTV Network who broadcast this concert sent worldwide over the Internet. A future star in the midst of future technology caught in time.

There are two other concerts with Imelda May here Rare Footage from Jan 2000 and the very first time that Darrel Highman and Imelda May were recorded together live on stage!

We are talking some real hard core Rockabilly, down to earth rock’n roll. This is foot tapping, gear thrashing, drag strip, duck tail rock. The kind with the leather jackets and bobbed hair styles. I offer both a DVD in professional package for collectors and a completely redone video/audio mp4 with color correction and sound sculpting. A real delight.

Who is Imelda May

Imelda May, is an Irish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Known primarily as a singer, she also plays the bodhrán, guitar, bass guitar and tambourine. She is known for her musical style of rockabilly revival and has also been compared to female jazz musicians such as Billie Holiday. We have several Imelda May concerts here, including one where she just started with Darrell Higham and these days she is no longer married to Darrell. Recently she has been hanging out with Johnny Depp as he was suing his x in the UK. She is touring again and her toyboy is also going back to the stage.

20 years ago I used to film my brothers gigs on video with mixed results as I rarely was given the opportunity to record from the gigs mixing desks and even when I did my editing in syncing the sound with upto three angles was at the lower end of ‘ acceptable ‘. So having read the reviews I bought this DVD bearing in mind how poor my efforts from a couple of decades ago now are !

There was a bit of a hickup in the rapid delivery ( as it turned out the problem was a local one and had NOTHING to do with the supplier or their delivery agent). This DVD arrived two weeks earlier than anticipated and the customer service must merit FIVE STARS alone .

I poured myself a drink and had the mindset of going to a concert in the 1990’s even though I hadn’t really discovered Imelda much before 2007 ish . Being the length of a set I had lined up two other DVDS to make a night of it. I can put 100 watts through my speakers without upsetting the neighbours so I thought I was ready for a good evening .

Pressed play and saw a stage with a simple Amp. the WONDERFUL Imelda with Mic , Mic stand , small drumkit ,Bass, and (Fender I think) guitar . No fancy lighting nothing to disguise what I was about to watch just one of those plain ordinary club gigs without all the bells and whistles .

I AM HOOKED , raw talent supported by each other . If I had to be critical it’d be on the lack of volume on slapping that Bass ( but I don’t think the Bass was miked ) BUT being a small venue I totally understand the restrictions of filming . I FELT I WAS THERE . Not much chat from Imelda other than”Thank you very much” but the strength and power in her vocals did all the talking you need when you are in such talented company ( Van the man and Christy Moore prove my point ) . All the band members had their moments in the spotlight . . . . But Imelda gave us a short simple taste of her BRILLIANT TALENT !

It was all over too soon ( we’ve all been to gigs like this) ; BUT , the joy of now having this , I forgot about the other DVDS , I had another drink and replayed the set again . . . I apologise to you and your husband Imelda but I am in love again ! . To finish , ( living in the UK ) I watched the two Bonus films that have been added . TREMENDOUS , FANTASTIC , WONDERFUL . I will still be looking for more DVD’S from Imelda , but, have turned out all my CDS of her ( even her Jeff Beck appearances ) ; I now look forward, with love in my heart , to putting that smile back on my face and listening to you for the next week or so . Five Stars can sometimes never be enough !

Okay , you have me hooked, I am just a simple fan ; BUT this humble fan now owns a TERRIFIC part of history that has already become a VERY treasured (never to be lost or forgotten) DVD.

Put simply five Stars and ” Thank you very much”
    🙂
