The New Mexikans Live At Spiral Lounge

The New Mexikans came to Spiral Lounge when I came up with a “TeenBandz” night, well sort of night. Because of the laws applied to New York Bars it had to be early, so the hours for TeenBandz was 6pm to 9pm after which all the teens had to leave the club. The whole Teenbandz theme was great. I saw countless talent come to the stage, all in their teens and all so talented. They brought with them lots of fans and the room lit-up for them.

For the New Mexikans it was all about energy as they filled the stage with energy and the room with music. Music with a heart, a beat, and a wailing guitarist. The best is this talent continues today. See their links below.

The New Mexikans were very special to me as the talent was extreme. Specifically the guitar player, Gabriel Marin, whose outstanding grasp of the instrument showed his potential had no limits. Even to this day Marin has become a major force in guitar and stringed instruments. He has spread his wings beyond the simple (well, not so simple) wailing guitar to being master of the fretless and his musical array expanded to music from every corner of the earth.

On the drums was Louis Miller and as a teen he was so immersed in the beat, the rhythm. Check out the drummer and you will see that he deserves the attention and future he got.

“He (Louis Miller) started drumming at 11, and by age 15 he was steady-gigging with local grunge rock band The New Mexikans, cutting his teeth on stage at now-extinct venues of New York’s legendary downtown scene: The Wetlands, The Knitting Factory, Coney Island High, and CBGB’s to name a few.” From his website

Yeah, he does not mention Spiral Lounge, but here you are and there you go. So many bands forgot the many nights they played at Spiral Lounge for the OnlineTV.com Internet Broadcast Networks. But here we are 2 decades later and not one of the clubs they “Thought” were cool ever once recorded or archived their concerts. Only Ricks Music Archives can do that and only from what is probably meant by “to name a few.”

Ned Vizzini seems to have had another road less traveled and became a Young Adult Author. While he ascended a ladder to fame as a writer his battle with depression was lost in December 2013.
