Solomon – The Duke Spirit – At 12 Bar Club, London
Here we have Solomon take the stage on September 12, 1999 for the OnlineTV global Internet video broadcast. Solomon evolved into The Duke Spirit but here we have the first instance recording of the origination, Solomon. Liela Moss displays her controlled vocals with a melodic sensibility and wide range of talent as she whips out that harmonica and tunes in with the best of them.
This might well be the earliest recording of the groups core as they played to their fans building up that core base. Lots of interaction in the video with a fine introduction by the MC of the night at 12 Bar Club.
Who Are The Duke Spirit
The Duke Spirit core is Luke Ford and Liela Moss. The two met at art college in Cheltenham where he was studying photography and Moss was taking a Fine Arts course. After moving to London and a short period writing and performing as Solomon at the 12 Bar Club (in which they were joined by Toby Butler) they then formed The Duke Spirit.
The Duke Spirit got a nomination for “Best Live Band” at the 2011 Artrocker Magazine Awards and have played a number of high-profile support slots for Queens of the Stone Age, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, British Sea Power, R.E.M., Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Supergrass, Eagles Of Death Metal, and Jane’s Addiction. Since 2008, the band have performed on American and British TV multiple times, appearing on Later… with Jools Holland, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Call with Carson Daly, It’s On with Alexa Chung, The Henry Rollins Show, Shameless, and the Late Show with David Letterman. Their song “Send a Little Love Token” was also included in the fifth title in the Guitar Hero video game series released in September 2009, selling over a million.
