Rainer Maria played the famous Acme Underground in New York City for OnlineTV.com back on October 22, 2000. The band started out in Madison Wisconsin but soon realized they had to get somewhere better for their music to expand. They found that in New York City and based themselves in Brooklyn, where the artists dwell.

Before Rainer Maria were a band, they were all part of a booking collective, bringing punk and indie rock bands from around the world to their college town of Madison, Wisconsin, in the mid-1990s. Kaia Fischer and William Kuehn had played music together before, but when they added Caithlin De Marrais to the mix, the trio took off. Together, they spun raw and tumultuous emotion into driving rock music, with literary and philosophical interests and influences that endeared them to many also searching through the underground for their place in the world. Many groups came to Acme Underground to play but once they moved on to the Mercury Lounge or better they forgot their roots in the dives that gave home to the brave. When Rainer Maria came to play for us we broadcast them all over the world using the Acme Underground and OnlineTV to their music over the Internet while recording the whole event for posterity using state of the art, for that time, digital recordings. The Band filled the room as Caithlin mesmerized the room. The whole band just worked so well together, like a well oiled music machine. Kaia wailed on his guitar, filled in the vocals and animated the stage while William laid the beat that just went without fault and carried the night for Rainer Maria.
