Duke Garwood Live At 12 Bar Club London
The 12 Bar Club, London welcomed Duke Garwood many times to its’ stages on Tin Pan Alley. This set, played to a noisy 12 Bar crowd is a rather good glimpse into the riffs and segmentation of Duke’s blues guitar and songs. With little tidbits of blues riffs interspersed with his original lyrics. At times Duke slips on a metal tube to his little finger to wing out some slide in his set.
In this hot summer set from 2001 the Duke can be seen and heard doing his wild blues as a solo artist on guitar. What grabs me most is the set is really a compilation of blues sounds in bits and bites as he seems to be giving a picture of just who he is and probably how he just sits at home jamming around. An intimate set for fans to get that look at an amazing artist diddling around in an almost haphazard way as he presents tantalizing phrases laying the groundwork of what could be tagged Duke Garwood blues.
Who is Duke Garwood
Duke Garwood is a London-based singer songwriter whose abilities on many instruments have shown themselves through time as he works with a wide variety of eclectic musicians. He’s most widely known for his work with songwriter Tag Lanegan. He played acoustic guitar with Orb’s “Perpetual Dawn” (as Duke Wayne) in the 1991 debut recording “Activities Beyond the Ultraworld.”
Garwood sang, or performed, on recordings by Dusted (as Luke Garwood), Carolyn Hume, and Paul Might. He started to garner a reputation as a blues man through his first single “Lovely Back Again” a few years after his performance at 12 Bar Club.
Garwood also was heard playing a number of horn instruments with the Notorious Hi-Fi Killers’ on their “Which Part Are You On?”
