It was always something special when Leo Osborne took the stage at Spiral Lounge and this moreso as it was at the CMJ gigs Almost as if we were growing together, bringing that home spun music and family feeling to the club and OnlineTV broadcast. Their gigs always made it feel like home and we all looked forward to the nights when they came by.
History of Home Grown Lopes
I find that we have a large collection of Home Grown Lopes from 1997 when they came for the first CMJ Music Festival until 2000 when they dissolved. The collection encompasses the growth of Home Grown Lopes from beginning to launching into their vast careers apart. While creating this page and setting up this historical set of concerts I was dumbfounded that Leo Osborne is nowhere to be found except for a small credit for him and Home Grown Lopes on one song, as background singer. Leo has seemed to disappear and I cannot find anything. If you have any information that can help expand this history and the band lineups please contact me.
Since there is so very little about Home Grown Lopes or Leo Osborne to be found I will lay out what I know. The group formed around Leo in 1997, contrary to the claim in Micheal Kelly page, and they came to play at our Spiral Lounge for the OnlineTV broadcast. While Spiral Lounge was not the only venue they played, we ended up with 4 concerts spanning most of their existence. From their first show on Oct 23 1997 to their farewell concert in 2000 we, at OnlineTV, followed this band and broadcast them live as well as creating archives. There seemed to be a variety of musicians that were in this band and it evolved and changed.
Lost Concerts Revealed
I am happy to offer these archives of Home Grown Lopes to the public and expand the information about this amazing Americana band. Their music always filled the room and the band was a kaleidoscope of various musicians, both on stage and coming out of the audience. Backing and part of the band were Joan Osborne, Michael Kelly, Lex Grey and would include family members right out in the audience. Everything was an instrument, from wash board, mouth harps to guitars and violins, everyone was in the play. This all made this all American band work. It was always an experience.
