The Butterflies of Love Live at Bull and Gate, London

The Butterflies of Love came over to the UK to expand their fan base. As they came to play at the Bull and Gate, Kentishtown, London, UK we were there to film and broadcast this concert around the world. While Blink 182 viciously attacked the bands performances, including on BBC radio’s John Peel show, the fact was The Butterflies of Love had landed in the Queen’s homeland and fans came flocking. The set is over 45 minutes and really spans their repertoire at the time.

Who are The Butterflies of Love

The Butterflies of Love are an indie pop band from New Haven, Connecticut, United States. Jeff and Daniel Greene officially launched The Butterflies of Love in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on March 15, 1994, under the name The Silver Bug. Ditching the world of coffee shop open mic nights and farmers market one-off performances, the duo assumed the name The Super-Sonic Daredevils of Show Business. With a six-piece avant-garde improvisational jazz band backing their efforts, Jeff and Daniel spent the harvest season on New England’s agricultural fair circuit. Garnering a motley collection of fans but completely exhausting their budget, The Super-Sonic Daredevils of Show Business disbanded at the end of 1994. Jeff and Daniel regrouped as stripped down two-piece The Butterflies of Love and hastily recorded an album in the living room they shared during the spring of 1995, America’s Newest Hit Makers.

For the next two years at Mike Arafeh’s Coffeehouse Studio in Middletown, Connecticut (Jeff’s hometown), the duo recorded a completely new debut album with the help of friends and fellow musicians, a few of whom found themselves permanent members of The Butterflies of Love: Scott Amore on all sorts of keyboards, Pete Whitney on bass guitar, Neil O’Brien on drums, and co-producer of much of the band’s early output Mark Mulcahy on everything that needed doing – from vocals to drums to piano riffs.
